Cranford~ Episode 3

In the third episode, the town eagerly anticipates the celebration of Christmas. The Tomkinson sisters hold a party on the eve of the festival.
~ Harry Gregson's father is arrested on a false charge of assault, while in fact at the time of the attack he was occupied in poaching Lady Ludlow's game, assisted by his son. Harry confesses the truth to Mr. Carter, who intercedes with Her Ladyship in an effort to get her to overlook the offence. LadyLudlow consents when she perceives the poverty of the Gregson family.
~ Dr. Harrison has a medical school friend, Jack Marshland, to stay. Jack convinces him to send flowers and a card to Sophy Hutton for Valentine's Day, but meanwhile the prankster Jack has sent a Valentine to poor Caroline Tomkinson as if from Dr. Harrison himself.
~ Miss Matty again meets with her old beau Mr. Holbrook. Mary learns from Miss Pole that Mr. Holbrook was refused by Miss Matty. She later explains that she felt she could not accept him in view of all the troubles their family was then experiencing. Miss Matty, Mary and Miss Pole are invited to visit Mr. Holbrook, who later must go abroad. Becoming ill on the way home, SPOILER*he dies*END OF SPOILER and Miss Matty orders a widow's cap.
~ Crimes are afoot in Cranford. Miss Pole (who has a good imagination) flees her house in fear of being robbed, inadvertently calling the demise of Mrs. Jamieson's beloved Carlo. Mrs. Jamieson soon acquires another pooch.

Cranford~ Episode 2

We're watching this series for the second time now and I've noticed more things about it like quotes and costumes which I love. Anyway, Episode Two has several little plots.
  1.~ The Browns have a guest, Major Gordon, who unbeknownst to Captain Brown, has proposed to Jessie in the past and now renews his offer. Jessie feels she must refuse when she hears that his regiment is for India.
 2.~ Preparations for Lady Ludlow's garden party are being made. Harry Gregson, the son of an impoverished tenant family, is found asleep on the property by Mr Carter, who takes the boy in hand and gives him errands to run during the garden party.
 3.~ Caroline Tomkinson has fallen in love with Dr. Harrison and pretends to be ill so that he can attend her. Meanwhile. people are noticing Dr. Harrison's admiration of Sophy Hutton which provokes jealousy on Caroline's part.
 4.~ Mrs. Forrester's cow, "Bessie dearest" falls into a lime pit and all her hair falls out. Mrs. Forrester then purchases a large amount of grey flannel and clothes the unfortunate beast in pyjamas.
 5.~ Much occurs at the long-awaited garden party. Mary Smith's stepmother attends, to her annoyance, and insists Mary go rowing on the lake with the doctor, while Miss Matty has an unexpected encounter with an old beau; but most unsettling of all, it is discovered that Captain Brown and Sir Charles Maulver are plotting the advance of the dreaded railway within a mile or two of Cranford.

Cranford~ Episode 1

"There is lace at stake!"

                                 "There is to be an amputation.It will be severed with a silver saw."

This miniseries is a hilarious chronicle about a market town ruled by ettiquette and custom. But changes are afoot in Cranford: new arrivals and rumours of a railway coming from nearby Manchester. To begin with: My favourite character has to be Miss Pole.

"What an excellent  perspective you have upon the scene!"

But it's not just gowns and gossip---there are downsides to 1800's life. To name but a few: a gruesome accident involving Miss Tomkinson, a weak tree branch, and a 'bone protruding'; deaths(i.e. Jessie Brown's sister); and then there is the fear that the railway will bring vagabonds and progress into Cranford.
