Les Miserables 2012 Movie Review Part 3!!!:-)

So, finally, here's part 3! And if my memory serves me correctly, I'm up to the part where Thenardier and Patron-Minette are planning to burglarize Jean Valjean and Cosette's house but Eponine stops them by a blood-curdling scream. "I'm not afraid of you!" But really...."Must be Javert!" made me laugh.

'Do You Hear the People Sing' was.....wow...amazing. So many people singing (well duh, but you know what I mean.) The drums gave me goosebumps.

Ha! Marius looks so funny here.

The barricade was so big but so hopelessly small against the soldiers. That eye thing is creepy. Oh, and I wish they hadn't thrown the piano either. Poor thing.

Tell me if I have this out of order, but I can't remember where 'One Day More' fits in.....I sooo badly need to watch this again. That was probably the best song involving all the characters. My sisters and I love to sing it in parts.
"One day mooooooooooooreeee!"
"But he neeeeeveeerrr saw mee thereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
"Watchemrunamok, catchemastheyfall..."

Anyway. This movie was so vibrant and colourful and visually breathtaking. 'Javert at the Barricade' is another of my favourites....only....he sings it way too fast.

Sure, put on a different hat and no one will recognize you. Except Gavroche, of course. I love that they showed Jean Valjean leading Javert away to shoot him and then letting him go. I guess this is where Javert begins to rethink everything. He's been tracking down Valjean for years, with the express intent of getting him back to the galleys. Valjean gets the chance to shoot his pursuer and be rid of him forever. But he doesn't do it. He has mercy on him. In the end, which is better, mercy or justice?(Btw, doesn't he looke like Robert Timmins from Lark Rise to Candleford in this picture? Or was it Nicholas Higgins from North and South? Or Brendan Coyle?)

'Drink with Me' was one of my fav......oh, let's just say all the songs were my favourites, okay? Gavroche's echo was very cute. But Lesgle, you're meant to be bald. He's the one on the left.
When Gavroche delivers Marius's letter for Cosette to Valjean, telling her that he's probably going to die, I started sniffling.
I think that happens after 'A Little Fall of Rain' but I'll deal with that now.

Okay...take a deep breath....this is where I started melting. Argh, it's so sad. Eponine gives up her life for Marius because she loves him even though he doesn't love her. She just wants him to be happy and live.
I could tell from the way she sings it that even though she says "I don't feel any pain" she is mortally wounded and is struggling to breathe. And then it's raining and she dies and I CRIED. I think she is my #1 favourite character, actually, and she was nearly the first to go. Marius finally realizes how blind he's been. I've heard it suggested that if they had lived, Eponine and Enjolras should have gotten married. What do I say to that?
I say YES!

On a side note, I really want this necklace!!!!Isn't it gorgeous?

'Little People/Gavroche's Death' was sooo awful. Why didn't anybody DO anything? I know he wouldn't listen, but.....poor little guy.  And Courfeyrac just loses it...oh my, it made me want to cry.  Not that I wasn't already.'Bring Him Home' was slightly boring. It was okay. The Big Battle was actually a lot less graphic and intense than I expected. Lots of blood and everything, but nothing too disturbing.

And then they all got killed. Boohoo. You don't actually see any of them die except Enjolras and Grantaire, but you get the idea that all the others are killed in battle.

It was over too quick. What happened to 'two at one shot' and 'do you permit it'?? Key lines from the book.

Sob.

And when Javert pins his only medal on Gavroche.. I begin to see that hey, Javert does have a heart after all.

Eww... I will deal with this as quickly as possible, because although thankfully the sewer scene was short, it was utterly gross. And I have a phobia about dark tunnels...one of the reasons I never went down the tunnel slides at McDonald's playgrounds when I was younger. This scene shows how strong Valjean is physically, and it's so sweet of him to rescue Marius just because he loves Cosette, even though Jean knows he will have to give Cosette up.

This picture is very cute, I must say. Glad they reduced Marius' severe wounds, sabre cuts, broken ribs, etc., to just a broken arm and walking stick, cause that part where the doctor is fixing him up in the book is kind of gruesome. Anyway.

This song made me cry, especially 'Doooon't asssskkkk me!" So much emotion. I can't even do that and still look good when I'm crying. Know what I mean??

The Wedding. Yay!

I love this part! Love her dress! Love all the dresses!

And finally we get rid of these two rascals. By the way, in the book Mme. T dies, so Thenardier and his other daughter Azelma go to America and set up as slave-traders. Nice guy, huh? Nope.

The ending scene was so huge and magnificent. While I do have a few theological issues with the 'heaven' scene, namely : are there barricades in heaven?: did they actually all go there?: why is Fantine's hair still short? it was a great scene because it showcased the Christian themes of forgiveness and redemption. Jean Valjean's death made me cry.  I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH! And I can't wait to see it again!!

  1. I apologize for the annoying backwards quotation marks. Don't know why they're like that.
